Future plans

United Properties has received approval from the Minneapolis School Board to acquire two former elementary school sites in Minneapolis with plans to redevelop them into Applewood Pointe senior cooperatives. The school projects will mark the first time United Properties has built an Applewood Pointe senior cooperative in the city of Minneapolis.

The two Minneapolis school locations are Northrop Elementary School, located in the Lake Nokomis neighborhood, and Howe Elementary School, located several blocks off West River Parkway in the Riverview neighborhood.

Preliminary project plans, which are subject to Minneapolis City Council approval, call for:

  • renovating and expanding the Howe building into 80-90 units
  • creating two new buildings with approximately 90 units for the Northrop site

The preliminary building designs and plans for both sites incorporate significant feedback from both the neighborhood groups and City Staff.

United Properties’ primary focus will be on developing an urban version of our Applewood Pointe Cooperative. To date, United Properties has developed five senior coops throughout the Twin Cities and our next community in Bloomington is currently under construction.
